Gifts for the Geek | Day 9: Unfettered II

This is a book very close to my geek heart.

Unfettered II is a brand-new anthology featuring some of the best SF&F writers working today. It is also an anthology I edited.

What’s in it? Brandon Sanderson offering a large first look at Oathbringer, next year’s Stormlight Archive novel? Check mark. Charlaine Harris writing in a new world that will expand in novels soon? Check mark. Naomi Novik opening the anthology with a story that feels a lot like her award-winning Uprooted? Check mark. And many, many more contributors all writing powerful tales—some set in established worlds, some in new ones.

The sequel to Unfettered exists for two different reasons. I wanted to pay forward the generosity I received from the first anthology, that book’s proceeds paying off my medical debt from surviving cancer. The second reason? I wanted to memorialize my mother, who passed away earlier this year due to cancer.

All monies made from Unfettered II will go toward alleviating other authors’ medical debit as well as fund cancer research.

Why should you buy this? The charity angle is always great and that alone should give you the warm fuzzy-wuzzies, but what about the author line-up?

My mother was the first geek in my life. She gave me The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks at exactly the right time. And at Christmas that year, she gifted me The Elfstones of Shannara and The Wishsong of Shannara. Ever since then, I’ve read fantasy and would not be working in this field today if not for her.
